Impact Challenge 2021: Google Scholar

What is Google Scholar?

Google Scholar is a freely accessible web search engine that indexes the full text or metadata of scholarly literature across an array of publishing formats and disciplines. Researchers can create profiles in Google Scholar to claim their publications and enhance search results for their name.

Why create a Google Scholar Profile?

  • Google Scholar provides a simple way to link searchers your publications.
  • Google Scholar automatically tracks citations to your work and makes those links publicly visible.
  • Maintaining your profile is easy.
  • Google Scholar is free to use as an author and searcher.
  • Google Scholar indexes the broadest range of grey literature, reports, presentations, posters, and other works shared outside of proprietary databases.

How to use Google Scholar Profiles

  • Keep at least one web profile current and accurate
  • Link to free, open access versions of your works whenever possible (use IUPUI Scholarworks, it’s easy!)
  • Link to a profile, such as your Google Scholar or ORCID profile, in your email signature, CV, presentations and posters, and (if possible) from your departmental web page.
